Academic calls for parks for oldies

Victoria University exercise researcher calls for seniors-only parks across Australia, saying "children have parks for exercise, why don't the elderly?"

Around the world, custom-made parks for seniors with balance beams, ramps, and step-up benches have become increasingly popular as a way to improve the physical function among the elderly.

A trial park with a group of Melbourne seniors proved they help the elderly better cope with daily activities, says Myra Sales. Parks also reduce the risk factors associated with incidents of tripping and falling.
